About Atamisque Winery
In San José, Tupungato, at 1,300 meters above sea level, Bodega Atamisque is part of an extensive estate surrounded by vineyards, orchards, and mature trees, with the Andes Mountains providing a spectacular natural backdrop.
The project began with the arrival in Mendoza of John Du Monceau and his wife Chantal, who found in this corner of the Uco Valley the ideal place to develop a winery inspired by both Argentina’s winemaking tradition and their French roots.
Winery & Vineyards
Bodega Atamisque was designed by Mendoza-based architectural studio Bórmida & Yanzón and blends naturally into the landscape through the use of stone, wood, and a distinctive slate roof reminiscent of traditional buildings found in European mountain regions.
The winery has an approximate capacity of one million liters and was designed to operate using gravity, reducing the need for pumps when moving grapes and wine throughout the winemaking process.
The estate vineyards are located primarily in San José, Tupungato, at around 1,300 meters above sea level, on alluvial soils with a significant presence of rounded stones. The winery also works with grapes from old vineyard plots belonging to regional growers, some of them more than 90 years old.
The cool climate of this part of the Uco Valley allows a wide range of grape varieties to thrive, including Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier.
Wines
Production is currently centered around three main collections: Atamisque, Catalpa, and Serbal.
Atamisque is the winery’s flagship range. It includes Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay, and Assemblage, characterized by greater concentration and extended aging in French oak.
Catalpa represents the premium range and includes wines such as Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Assemblage, as well as white wines. These wines seek to express the character of Tupungato’s high-altitude vineyards with more moderate oak aging.
Serbal brings together the winery’s young, fruit-driven wines, with a particularly broad selection that includes Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Rosé, and Assemblage.
The winery also produces sparkling wines, benefiting from the naturally high acidity achieved by white grapes grown in this cool area of the Uco Valley.
Wine Tourism
Bodega Atamisque welcomes visitors with guided tours of its facilities and a variety of tasting experiences.
These experiences introduce guests to the winery’s three main collections — Serbal, Catalpa, and Atamisque — while exploring the differences in winemaking, terroir, and aging that define each range.
Other experiences combine a winery tour with wine and regional gastronomy, including tastings accompanied by different varieties of empanadas.
A visit can also be extended throughout Finca Atamisque with dining at Rincón Atamisque, accommodation at its lodges, and activities connected with nature and country life.
Gastronomy & Setting
Just a few steps from the winery is Rincón Atamisque, a country-style restaurant where the estate’s wines accompany cuisine based on regional ingredients and produce grown on the property.
One of its signature products is trout, raised at Atamisque and featured in a variety of dishes. The estate also produces fruit, nuts, vegetables, and aromatic herbs.
The setting invites visitors to extend their experience beyond wine, exploring vineyards, gardens, orchards, and mature trees with views toward the Andes.
