Carmelo is a land of wine producers. For almost a hundred years,
vineyards have been cultivated in grounds surrounded by fields,

the vineyards are very traditional; they care for the land, and
have a great sense of respect and admiration for nature.
Carmelo is considered as one of the traditional viticulture
areas of Uruguay, with the grapes obtained from this region wine
is made, the kind defined as “de boliche”, usually chosen by the
countryside people, and also the kind for exportation, made to
meet with the requirements of the most challenging markets.

Location
|
Carmelo is one of the most emblematic cities within the
Department of Colonia. It particularly combines a historical
wine estate with beautiful powdery white beaches, a yacht port,
and the kindness of its people. Its vineyards are located in the
same height above sea level as Bordeaux and other significant
wine regions of the world. Carmelo has a historical connection
with Buenos Aires. This city was the location of the quarries
that manufactured the paving stones that characterized the
streets of the capital city of Argentina for several years. It
was also the place through which the first livestock entered the
territory of Uruguay. According to certain historiographical
background, the town of Las Víboras exists since 1758. At that
time, the town was composed of a chapel and a few ranches within
a perimeter of four blocks.
Carmelo is a city located in the department of Colonia of
western Uruguay. Route 21 passes through the city, joining it
with Nueva Palmira to the northwest and Colonia del Sacramento
to the southeast. |
